Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American performer, actress and songwriter for several years. She was raised by her mother, in the USA. She was subjected to racial insults, she was felt unloved. In the ninth grade, after a school audition in which she received praises for her singing and acoustics, she began to gain confidence. The experience not only boosted her self-confidence but also changed the direction she wanted to go in her career. At 22, she graduated from the New York's Julliard School. In 1993 she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. In the Broadway first production of Spamalot, she played the role of Lady of The Lake which won the Tony Award as well as high praise from critics. Later in the same year she appeared on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider recognition for it. Known as a singer she has also released a single as well as an extended version of her play. In addition, she is an LGBT activist.
